Bio

Bri started training in acrobatics when she was enrolled in gymnastics at only 18 months old. Her parents owned a gymnastics academy for many years so she basically grew up in the gym and spent most of her time training. She got her black belt in taekwondo and hapkido when she was 17 years old and was named All-American Cheerleader while in high school. She also trained in other activities such as diving and various forms of dance but took a break from it all to focus on her studies during college. AcroYoga not only reawakened her passion and gave her many new opportunities to challenge herself but also connected her with a community full of some of the most supportive and passionate people she has ever met. She hopes to learn and grow as an Acroyogi and human being through teaching and helping others to find their greatest potential and happiness.

Bio

Chris was a self proclaimed gym rat before finding AcroYoga in 2013. He quickly became addicted to this fast evolving art, and has branched his training into multiple disciplines including gymnastics, yoga, and handbalancing. It feeds, nourishes, and challenges what Chris believes to be the essentials of the human experience. Not only is it as mentally stimulating as it is physically demanding, it's this incredible social atmosphere that fosters trust, communication, personal growth, and great friendships. Chris is a strong proponent of mastering the basics, fine tuning tempo, and working intelligently and efficiently. His engineering mind analyzes, critiques and tweaks movement to an almost neurotic level, believing attention in the finest of details leads to the greatest results.

CHRISTINE FALAGUERRA

instructor

IMG_6797

Bio

When Christine first tried acroyoga in the end of 2013 it felt like a culmination of all the movement practices that she loved: dance, gymnastics, and yoga. Acro is joy in movement but with with the additional, essential component of trust and connection with a partner.

After that first day, Christine was hooked. She attended Yogabatics classes, weekly jams, and coaxed anyone she could into practicing. Since then, Christine has been taught Beginner and Intermediate classes with Yogabatics. She a also a certified yoga instructor through Dharma Yoga at the 200 hour level.

Christine sees acro as a remedy to the disconnect that comes from today's inundation of technology and our interactions with screens rather than people. Acroyoga allows people to grow together. Acroyoga develops communication through touch and words. And most wonderfully, it requires practitioners to be fully present in body, breath and space, and with someone else.

GRANT SHIPMAN

instructor & founder

64170_10151402733052098_707411588_n

Bio

Grant Shipman is a learner and a lover of people. When he came upon acroyoga (“acro”), he was immediately addicted. You can find him flying people on Congress, at various acro workshops, teaching classes & private lessons, online instructional videos, and acro-jamming late into the night with the Austin Acro Yoga Community. Before starting Yogabatics, he had been a chiropractic coach for many years. He has a strong personal practice and is still enthralled with the most basic poses like free bird and floating paschi. Grant loves seeing people learn to play together, let go of pretense, heal one another, and do rad stuff together. He’s convinced that people are not broken in need of fixing but disconnected and in need of restoration with both the Creator and other humans. This is how he is finding true life and true rest. Acro has provided dynamic expression, experimentation and continued exploration to this pursuit of relational-connectivity. In 2012 founded and directs Yogabatics, which currently is one of only 3 entities that certify instructors in acroyoga; has the world's most used AcroYoga Instructional Video Series; and consists of a teaching staff, Yogabatics Teaching Guild, and Flux Performance Troupe.  Grant has trained and does train with anyone he can find including AcroYoga Montreal, AcroYoga Inc, Circus Center San Francisco, YogaSlackers, Seattle Acro, Partner Acrobatics, Acrosage, and more.  Grant helped host the first Yoga of Trust Teacher Training in 2016, and he is occasional staff at The Circus Center in San Francisco.  He is part of the Hampton Household and lives in Austin, TX, his favorite town on planet Earth.

Philosophy

Grant focuses on togetherness as the way to fully experience our humanness.  Providing class direction to help create a safe container for learning togetherness that unfolds naturally into playfulness, creativity, improvisation, mutual-learning, inner calm, and super-rad acro moves.  Cultivating a servant’s heart, we learn to interact with one another in life-giving ways, help one another safely push our edge, and find gratitude for our own bodies bubbling up inside of us.  As in life, acro is a process and we can only start a process from where we are at.

Bio

Jamie is a law student at the University of Texas. She started practicing Acroyoga as a way to relieve stress, but it quickly became a way of life for her. With a background in contact sports and competitive weight lifting, Jamie has loved finding and developing a practice that is shaped by gentleness, intentionality, and self-awareness. Jamie bases and flies equally, and loves breaking down the barriers and preconceived notions of who should base and who should fly. For her, Acroyoga is a practice that empowers, rather than limits. She loves to see the biggest person in the room flying, and the smallest person in the room basing.

Bio

Matt is unique in the Acroyoga community as he came in with no yoga background. His primary background is in swing dance. He founded the Austin Swing Syndicate in 1999 with a mission to grow the dance community in Austin. In his words, "There are a lot of similarities between acro and swing. Both require a strong partner connection, allowing each other to do things they couldn't do as two separate people. Trust and training are both key elements as well, forming the foundation needed to do amazing things."

Matt also trains people in personal development, allowing them to see the world in ways they never thought possible. This blends with his enthusiastic teaching style to allow students to feel at ease and safe while simultaneously pushing themselves past their perceived limitations.

STEPHANIE BOYD

instructor

biopic

Bio

Stephanie Boyd started acroyoga in June 2013 for strength training and stays with it for the fun and friendship. She enjoys sharing her love of acro through teaching and has a knack for communicating the fun of acro while keeping it safe. Stephanie does not have much background in movement (a couple years, or so, of intermittent yoga) and so approaches acro from more of a nuts and bolts angle. She is a good example that, even without an extensive movement background, a person can excel at acro, and even feel graceful about it!
